AI Mode
AI Mode is a conversational search experience in Google Search that answers a question with an AI-generated response and supporting links, and lets people ask follow-up questions.
Example
Someone asks AI Mode to compare three family SUVs on cargo space and safety ratings, then follows up with "which of these is best for long road trips?" without starting a new search.
Why it matters
Google's documentation says AI Mode is particularly helpful for queries that need further exploration, reasoning or complex comparisons, and that it may use query fan-out to gather information. These are often the considered, multi-part questions buyers ask before choosing a product.
Because a conversation can run over several turns, a brand may be named in one turn and dropped in the next. Tracking AI Mode separately from AI Overviews can show differences between the two.
