AI search audit

An AI search audit is a structured check of how AI engines describe, mention and cite a brand for the questions its buyers ask, usually compared with its competitors.

Example

A software company runs 20 buyer questions through several AI engines. For each answer it records whether the brand is named, where it appears in the answer, which competitors are named instead, which sources are cited, and whether the facts stated about the brand are correct.

What it usually covers

An audit typically starts with a prompt set that reflects real buyer questions, then looks at mentions and position, citations, how the brand is described, and whether key facts are accurate. Many audits also check technical access, such as whether the site's robots.txt blocks AI crawlers. For brands that sell in several countries, running prompts in each market's own language gives a more realistic view than translating one set.

Why it matters

An audit gives you a baseline before you change anything, so later work can be judged against it. Because AI answers vary, an audit is a snapshot rather than a verdict, and it is most useful as the first reading in an ongoing series.

How Stellarcast handles it

Stellarcast offers a free audit that runs across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. For non-English markets, prompts are drafted natively for the market you choose where possible, rather than machine-translated from English. You can also try the free AI visibility checker.
