Answer engine optimization (AEO)

Answer engine optimization (AEO) is the practice of making a brand's content easy for AI-powered answer engines to find, understand and cite, so the brand is named in the answers people receive.

Example

A B2B software company rewrites its pricing page so the first sentence answers "how much does it cost," adds a clear comparison table, and corrects outdated product facts on third-party listings so engines describe it accurately.

What the work usually involves

Common AEO practices include writing answer-first content with question-shaped headings, keeping brand facts accurate and consistent across the web, making sure AI crawlers can reach important pages, and earning mentions on sources engines draw from. Success is usually judged by how often and how favorably the brand is named, measured with metrics such as mention rate and AI share of voice, rather than by rankings alone.

AEO overlaps heavily with GEO and LLMO; the labels differ more in emphasis than in the work involved.

How Stellarcast handles it

Stellarcast follows an AEO loop: monitor how engines mention and cite your brand, diagnose the gaps where competitors are named instead, draft fixes that publish to WordPress only after your approval, then measure the lift against holdout controls.
